3D Printed Bee Hives - 3D Printing Dubai

 Globally, there is decrease in numbers of honey bees, which can lead all farming industry to an alarming situation. Recently, a team of researchers from Lancaster University have brought-up an idea of 3D Printed bee homes to boost numbers of bees and they hope to distribute these 3D Printed  bee homes to the public as part of a bee awareness outreach effort- news courtesy (3dprinting.com)

This group of researchers from Lancaster University designed the world's first webcam-equipped "BeeBox", which will encourage common people to show their care towards nature and towards declining bees and also, it give access to the bee-life to the researchers as never before. This BeeBox, which 3D Printed using recycled plastic are designed to be mounted on trees or on the ground as the different types of bees may have different preferences to whether living on trees or on ground.

By 3D Printing of "BeeBox", researchers are expecting it to gradually increase the interest of common people in honey bees and its farming and hope to increase the numbers accordingly. While, giving the comfortable environment for queen bees, researchers will help to start a chain process of increasing the bee hives naturally. 

These BeeBoxes are sturdy and the material used for 3D Printing BeeBox will resist the outdoor climate and even can be buried underground. The researchers have already set up four prototypes on a farm, and have been monitoring the bee activity via infrared webcam (so there is no need to light up the box with visible light).

This 3D Printed BeeBox can be adapted to Middle East region especially in UAE. According to the beekeepers association in UAE, UAE imports over 95% of the queens required to produce honey, which represents about 500,000 packaged bee colonies every year. Unfortunately, these bees are not equipped to survive UAE's harsh summer, which may reach upto 50°C.
